The Story
I have always been athletic, I was not gifted in anyway when I was a teenager but still played sports enough to make the team. The "team" is what I loved about playing organized sports. After high school I really did not do anything athletic for about 20 years. Then after not making it as a guitarist I realized I needed more in my life. So I got into hiking, started hiking the Grand Canyon rim to rim and then back the next day. I did that from 1998 to last year. Yeah like 40 times!!! Still love it. Through that time I started riding mountain bikes and then running marathons. Again not breaking any records but by my 4th marathon I broke the 4 hour mark. And then of course after years of running I was starting to be injuried more than health. So I dropped to half marathons. In the fall of 2014 I had a major hip injury and the funning is it was not from any activity I got up from my desk at work and something popped and I was down. So I did what everyone does, ice it and take a break from running. I live with that injury for 3 more half marathons before I could not run at all.
Fast forward now cuz I can tell your getting bored, in 2021 I saw a few doctors who told me it was my back get PT blah blah blah. Finally got a shot in the hip and it did not help. Finally was told "you need a new hip" Finally I can get it fix!! That is what drove me to the RRHR life style. For a 58 year old guy I can either roll over and die or get off my ass and kick some ass!! Yeah I am not a guy to give up so here we go. Got the surgery 12/2022 have hike the Canyon again and ran a half marathon. I hope this inspires all the older guys or anyone who can benefit from these concepts. No I am not a PHD or have a degree in anything. But I will tell you I have tried every device to heal every workout plan I have tried it! I have spent thousands of dollars on equipment etc....NOW I finally realize if you wanna stay fit your entire life then you have to be willing to change your life style as you all get WISER (I hate the word old so I am going with wise :). This site is not a nutrition or meal plan site, it is a way to just, hopefully inspire each other to KEEP GOING!!! Now get off the internet and go RUN, RIDE, HIKE.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
